"Design is a plan for arranging elements in such a way as best to accomplish a particular purpose" — Charles Eames

About Us

As students ourselves, we understand the enormous amount of potential every young person possesses. In York Region, we have access to one of the greatest education systems in the world. On the other hand, children living in impoverished communities are denied the right to an education. Taken for granted in our society, children who don’t have access to an education are not given the opportunity to achieve their full potential and to make a difference in their own communities. Only through literacy will the foundation for an independent, self sustainable community be laid. Only through schools will a generation of children be given the opportunity to achieve their dreams. Only through education will the cycle of poverty be broken. Turn the Page wants to give children these opportunities.

Turn the Page (officially known as York Region Turn the Page Education Initiative) is an incorporated youth operated non-profit organization devoted to engaging the youth of York Region in the support of education amongst developing nations. Founded in 2010, the Turn the Page team consists of dedicated high school volunteers that represent 6 different schools in York Region. By involving the youth population, we are determined to make a lasting impact not only in York Region, but also to impoverished youth around the world. Receiving support from Frank Scarpitti, the mayor of Markham, and various local youth councils, we hope to inspire youth to make positive changes in their local and global communities.
